Seeing as though this is my very first blog as The Travellist, perhaps this one should tell you a little about who I am…because from here on in, every blog will be about travel, and food, and stories from far and wide, and food (did I mention that?), and all the things that make holidays the stuff we daydream about.
My real name is Clare, chances are by the time you’ve read this, I’ve just turned 40, I have 3 dogs and I’m dividing my time between Sanur and Lembongan (where the American* lives), and spending as much time as possible travelling all over the world because it’s a big world and I don’t want to run out of time to see as much of it as I can. But I don’t want you to think this is another Eat Pray Love blog. While I’ll certainly be eating my way through lots of delicious menus, praying that I can go to all the places I want to go to, and no doubt falling in love with every country I visit, that’s where any similarities will end. Not that there is anything wrong with Eat Pray Love, I’m just terrible at yoga and meditating and my zen can be found in good food and wine. Not terribly spiritual really…
This blog is about travelling, tips and tricks to make your holiday the best yet, stories from around the globe, and even just little things I discover living and travelling overseas. I’ll also bring you accomodation and tour specials that you can book directly through me. I’ll show all sorts of places to eat, drink, dance and shop. I’m assuming you like to dance – dancing into the wee hours and holidays seem to go hand in hand for me.
And I’d love to hear from you – let me know what you’d love to hear about travelling and life in Bali, especially Sanur and Lembongan, or if you have places you want me to go ‘investigate’ for you, just let me know. Also businesses – if you would like a review, and lots of social media marketing, or to advertise on this site, just drop me an email.
The next few months are a busy time for me – besides bringing you stories from Bali, I’ll also be bringing you adventure and travel news from the U.S. And being that I’ll be in airports in Singapore and Tokyo and L.A, I’ll give you all the latest info on visas, duty free and hidden treasures I find at the airports to make your transit and travel more comfortable.
Before I sign off , a little explanation about the logo. I have always loved old travel trunks and leather suitcases. The wrinkled and slightly bashed in and dented ones. Covered in stickers and tags and labels. For me they represent adventure, travels to places far and wide, romance, a time when travelling meant dressing up in your finery and all the family coming to say goodbye at the boat. Those days are gone but I hope I can capture some of that magic in my journey around this beautiful globe.
A holiday is just a daydream away.
*The American lives and works on Lembongan and will feature in some of my stories. I’m teaching him Australian (How ya going’?) and he’s teaching me American (sure, pronounced shrr).
