Earth Day was held just recently around the world and I was fortunate to be invited by Bali Hai Cruises to join in their Earth Day on Nusa Lembongan. As you know, I like writing, telling stories and talking about the wonderful things that I come across in Bali. So it’s a privilege when I am asked to write on behalf of another company and to help write about what they are doing. Earth Day and it’s message is a topic I am passionate about – we have one Earth, let’s look after it and protect it and ensure the survival of the environment and its species for years to come. Here’s the Earth Day blog about the great work Bali Hai Cruises, Coral Triangle Centre, Bye Bye Plastic Bags and Bottle for Botol are doing for our environment.
EARTH DAY 2016 – SAY NO TO PLASTIC IN LEMBONGAN!
Nusa Lembongan is a small island with incredible land and sea environments and eco-systems, robust and fragile all at the same time. To keep our island safe from environmental changes and to protect our incredible and unique species, like the Bali Starling, Mola-Mola and giant Manta Rays, we need to combine forces and work together.
Last Friday was Earth Day across the world and we at Bali Hai organized an event with local groups to spread the message – one earth, let’s look after it. We started Earth Day early on Thursday night with an informative and interesting presentation from Coral Triangle Center, explaining the important of the three islands, Nusa Lembongan , Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Penida, from an ecological point of view and the environmental issues and changes we need to be mindful of. Then the inspirational girls from Bye Bye Plastic Bags spoke. It’s a humbling experience to listen to a 13 year old and a 15 year old talk about what they, and their teams, have done to achieve international recognition and to change government policies on plastic bags. At that age I was only concerned with how to get out of doing my homework – these girls just returned from London after giving presentation on Ted Talks in front of hundreds of people and to global audience of +1 million viewers!
