🌊 Nyepi Laut: The Ocean’s Day of Silence
Nyepi Laut (or Nyepi Segara) is the ocean version of Nyepi, observed only in Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan. On this day, the sea rests: no boats, no swimming, no snorkelling, and no diving.
The tradition, dating back to the 17th century, honours Dewa Baruna, guardian of the ocean, through quiet reflection and meditation. Visitors are encouraged to dress modestly.
