Curious About Nyepi?
On March 29th, Bali observes Nyepi — a sacred Day of Silence. It’s one of the most extraordinary days on the island:
- No travel — streets are completely empty.
- No noise — even the beach stays quiet.
- No lights — homes go dark, creating an unforgettable, star-filled night sky.
Locals spend the day in quiet reflection, and tourists are asked to do the same. It’s a rare chance to experience Bali in a peaceful, spiritual stillness.
✨ Pro Tip: Stock up on food, snacks, and entertainment the day before — you won’t be able to leave your accommodation, and most shops and restaurants will close (even the airport shuts down!).
Ogoh-Ogoh Parade
The night before Nyepi (March 28th) is the complete opposite — loud, lively, and unforgettable.
Villages create massive, colorful Ogoh-Ogoh statues — grotesque, mythical monsters representing evil spirits. The streets explode with music, fire torches, and dancing as the statues are paraded through towns.

When the sun sets and the moon rises over Bali’s temples and rice fields, some say the island belongs to Leak — Bali’s most feared night spirit.
By day, she looks like an ordinary person, blending in with the villagers. But at night, her head detaches from her body, floating through the darkness with glowing organs trailing behind, hunting for energy from the living.
How to stay safe? Balinese tradition says you can ward off Leak — and other restless spirits — by showing respect to the island and its energies.

- Place a small offering (canang sari) at your doorstep — this keeps bad spirits at bay.
- Avoid pointing at temples or sacred statues — it’s believed to invite negative energy.
